Join the Andean Condor Conservation Project and be part of the condor’s return to our skies. With your support, we protect their habitat, educate new generations, strengthen communities, and make it possible for birds like Rafiki to soar again over our mountains.
Rafiki is more than a condor: he is a symbol of hope. After 12 years of work traveling across the Andes in search of a breeding pair, on July 29, 2024, the first condor hatched through artificial incubation was born in Cundinamarca, thanks to a pair brought from Chile in 2015.
Rafiki represents a new beginning and a boost to continue protecting our skies.
We dream of seeing him fly free over the páramos, but to make that happen, we need more hands, hearts, and willpower.
Since 2012, at the Jaime Duque Park Foundation, we have been working to protect the Andean condor, a sacred symbol of freedom and balance, now critically endangered in Colombia.
This majestic bird connects us to our ancestral roots and reminds us that we are part of something greater. That is why our mission brings together conservation, culture, and social action.
Monitoring and Protection: We monitor wild populations and protect their habitat.
Breeding and Release: We breed condors in controlled environments and prepare them for their return to the wild.
Environmental Education: We raise awareness among communities, schools, and visitors about the importance of the condor.
Sustainable Agro-practices: We support local communities with productive projects that respect nature.
Coexistence with Wildlife: We promote relationships of respect and pride towards our biodiversity.
You too can be part of this story.
We seek harmony between humans and the condor, building relationships of respect, belonging, and pride in our biological and cultural diversity. You too can be part of this story.
Rafiki is more than a condor: he symbolizes a dream come true.
After 12 years of work traveling the Andes in search of pairs to help repopulate the skies of Colombia, Rafiki was born on July 29, 2024, thanks to the joint efforts of committed individuals and institutions.
He is the first condor born in Cundinamarca through artificial incubation, descended from a pair brought from Chile in 2015.
Rafiki represents a new beginning and the hope of seeing him fly free over our páramos.
Rafiki reminds us that with perseverance and unity, everything is possible.
What is the Andean Condor Conservation Program?
Since 2012, at the Jaime Duque Park Foundation, we have made a commitment to protect the Andean condor, one of the most emblematic and sacred species of Latin America, now critically endangered in Colombia. The condor is not just a bird; it is a symbol of freedom, balance, and the connection between the earth and the sky.
Its presence reminds us that we are part of something greater, older, and wiser than ourselves. That is why our mission integrates conservation with social and cultural causes.
We work on five key fronts to protect this majestic species:
Monitoring and Protection: We closely monitor wild condors in the Colombian Andes, protect their habitat, and generate vital information for their conservation.
Breeding and Release: We breed condors under professional care and prepare them for reintroduction as part of a repopulation program.
Environmental Education: We raise awareness among communities, schools, and visitors about the importance of the condor, promoting respect and collective action.
Sustainable Practices: We support local communities in developing productive activities in harmony with nature.
Coexistence and Well-being: We promote respectful relationships with wildlife, strengthening the bond between people and their environment.
