Each year, Caracol Televisión recognizes organizations, companies, and communities that work tirelessly to protect and restore Colombia’s environment through its Caracol Awards for Environmental Protection. These awards aim to highlight initiatives that create a positive impact on ecosystems, promote the sustainable use of natural resources, and contribute to environmental education in society.
In its most recent edition, the Jaime Duque Park Foundation was honored with the Caracol Conservation Award in the “Non-Governmental Organizations – NGO” category, thanks to its outstanding work on the Andean Condor Conservation Project, carried out in the La Piedra del Cóndor Nature Reserve, located in San Andrés, Santander, and in the park located in Tocancipá, Cundinamarca. This project aims to ensure the protection of this iconic species, promote its monitoring, and raise awareness about its ecological and cultural importance.
In addition to the direct conservation of the species, the program works hand in hand with local communities in the region’s high-mountain areas, organized under ACAMCO (Association of Farmers – Coexisting with the Condor), providing them with environmental education and tools to become guardians and protectors of the Andean Condor. This community component has been key to reducing threats, fostering coexistence with wildlife, and strengthening collective commitment to ecosystem protection. In addition to the communities, the program has received the unwavering support of firefighters and guides, whose valuable work makes this initiative possible.
The foundation has implemented reforestation programs, wildlife protection initiatives, and environmental education, engaging local communities and visitors in building a more sustainable future. This award reaffirms its role as a place where recreation meets environmental responsibility, inspiring thousands of people to care for the planet.
