Protecting
Biodiversity
of Colombia
Colombia is home to nearly 10% of global biodiversity. CSS Colombia catalyzes strategic actions for species conservation, coordinating alliances that protect one of the richest natural heritages on the planet.
A natural treasure
that deserves to be
conserved
Colombia's geographic location, combined with its vast range of climates, altitudes, and ecosystems, positions it as the second most biodiverse country in the world. It ranks first in the diversity of birds, orchids, and butterflies, harboring nearly 10% of the planet's global biodiversity within its borders.
However, this richness faces critical challenges: habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution, climate change, overexploitation of resources, invasive species, and the illegal wildlife trade.
The Alliance for
Colombiaās Species
One of the main objectives of CSS Colombia is to consolidate and expand the strategic support and necessary capabilities to catalyze assessment, planning, and action processes focused on the conservation of Colombian species.. To achieve this, it is essential to strengthen strategic alliances that promote joint and coordinated actions for the protection of the country's ecosystems.
This purpose is materialized through the consolidation of the Alliance for Colombiaās Species, led by the Jaime Duque Park Foundation, in coordination with the Colombia Species Specialist Group, the Species Survival Commission (SSC) network, and various national and international stakeholders, including governmental entities, non-governmental organizations, universities, and community actors.
Ā
The Alliance for Colombiaās Species seeks to work in a coordinated manner to:
Ensure that all plans and actions are aligned with the National Strategy, developing National Plans with a unified approach.
